EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE SUPPORT

Here at Southern Regional AHEC, all residents complete a robust Evidence-Based Medicine curricula, featuring classroom instruction during the first year and completion of structured assignments throughout residency, all with close support from our clinical librarians. Residents learn to formulate clinical questions using the PICO format, research appropriate medical databases, analyze different types of clinical trials, and determine the information value, level of evidence, relevance, and validity in making clinical decisions.  Our clinical librarians round with the inpatient medical team on a weekly basis to respond to questions prompted by patient care.  All this encourages our residents to fully integrate EBM into their clinical practice and sets them up for success as lifelong learners.
