EVIDENCE BASED MEDICINE SUPPORT

Here at Southern Regional AHEC, all residents complete a robust Evidence-Based Medicine curricula, featuring classroom instruction during the first year and completion of structured assignments throughout residency, all with close support from our Information Resource Specialists. Residents routinely formulate clinical questions using the PICO format, learn to use research appropriate medical databases, identify different types of clinical trials and determine their value, level of evidence, relevance and validity in making clinical decisions. This allows our residents to fully integrate EBM into their clinical practice and sets them up for success as lifelong learners.

The level of support from our Information Resource Specialists is unparalleled! From initial classroom instruction, rounding with the inpatient medicine team on a weekly basis, attending weekly didactics, to providing routine support as needed, our IR Team plays an active role in the education of our residents. Our team actively assists residents with their research and quality improvement projects and keeps them abreast of the latest research on clinical topics.

A typical example of this type of support is exemplified in the recent email that was sent to all of our residents and faculty. View email
