Explanation of Inpatient Medicine/Call Schedule

On inpatient medicine rotations

Residents work in the hospital from 7 am - 6 pm on M-F
Residents work one 12-hour "call shift" every weekend of the month (Saturday day, Saturday night, or Sunday day) from 7-7

On night float rotations

Residents work in the hospital from 6 pm - 7 am on M-F but stay through rounds on Saturday morning (usually until around 11)
No additional call

On other rotations

Residents may have calls on weekend days (Saturday day, Saturday night, Sunday day) as above OR Sunday night call from 7p - 7 am Monday (with the rest of Monday off)
Interns generally have around 4-6 extra call shifts (that aren't associated with their medicine months)
Second years usually have around 4-6 extra call shifts
Third years usually have around 2-4 extra call shifts
